We currently have 2 full-time Prevention Education Specialist positions available.

 

General Description:

Works with students, teachers, administrators and parents in prevention education.  Serves as a resource to implement prevention education strategies within the Wood County Schools and communities, using evidenced-based programs that promote social-emotional learning and safe school environments.

 

Qualifications:            

A four-year degree is preferred but not mandatory. Candidate must either possess an Ohio Certified Prevention Specialist certification or be willing to obtain one within two years. Experience in education, social work, human development and family studies or related fields are preferred but not required.

 

Essential Functions:              

Remain abreast of current prevention education guidelines, policies, and directives at the federal, state, and local levels.

Communicates with school administration, staff, and community on progress of prevention education programming,

Represent the interest of youth by serving on various community and prevention related committees.

Help students become healthy, resilient, and productive citizens through prevention education strategies and programming. Work with school staff to identify students who need assistance and provide educational screenings and referrals as appropriate. Develop county-wide and local school and community programming based on county and local data. Contribute to grant writing when appropriate. Submit appropriate data to the manger and director for all required reports.

 

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

Serve as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as substance-free citizens. Help instill in students the belief in, and practice of, ethical principles and democratic values. Conduct all other activities as directed by the program manager/director.

 

Additional Working Conditions:

Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue.

Occasional operation of a vehicle under inclement weather conditions.

Occasional interaction among unruly children.

 

Full time Position:                 Salary will be comparable to the area.

 

Contract:                                10 month classified contract will be offered.
