To provide instruction to students identified with multiple disabilities/autism through individual and small group teaching. Directs and evaluates the learning experiences of the MD students in all activities sponsored by the district. Enables the students to reach their fullest physical, emotional, psychological, and behavioral potential.

 

Essential Functions:

1. Demonstrate familiarity with current Operating Standards for Ohio's Schools Serving Children with Disabilities, follows the Model procedures for the Education of Children with Disabilities and WCESC Policy Handbook, and uses current methods of instruction as they relate to the academic contrent standards.

 

2. Serve as a role model for students by conducting themselves in a professional manner in dress, action, language.

 

3. Identify the functional academic needs of students and collaborate with the educational team members to identify learning needs and develop appropriate accomodations and modification for instruction to ensure student access to the general education curriculum.

 

4. Develop behavior modification plans and teaching materials, utilize instructional methods, and maintain and create lesson plans in order for the child to successfully develop functional academic and pre-vocational skills that lead to progress toward IEP goals and objectives.

 

5. Maintain current records including updated IEP progress notes, EMIS forms, ongoing behavioral charting, monthly attendance records and quarterly progress reports in a timely fashion.

 

6. Communicate program wants and needs with the WCESC supervisor through e-mail, on-site visits, telephone conversations and personal interactions.

 

7. Maintain objectivity, professionalism, and confidentiality with students and parents.

 

8. Implement classroom management strategies and techniques in accordance with each district's code of conduct and district policies in a fair and consistent manner.

 

9. Coordinate and/or attend all appropriate meetings pertaining to the education of special needs students and students referred to the MD program.

 

10. Conduct other duties as related to the job description as assigned by the Special Education Supervisor and Superintendent.

 

11. Submit and follow a professional development plan to the LPDC and maintain accurate records to ensure teacher licensure renewal.

 

12. Comply with all local, state and federal healthy and safety standards.

 

13. Coordinate the daily operation of the classroom using the assistants, attendants, volunteers, teacher interns, outside agency personnel and related service providers.

 

14. Make special efforts, which may include home visits, parent conferences, phone calls, and written communication  to keep parents and home school districts informed.

 

15. Physically able to life a minimum of 50 pounds, and attend to physical and personal needs of the student when required.

 

16. Respond to all students in a kind, fair and interested manner.
