General Description:          

Directs and evaluates the learning experience of the ED students in all activities sponsored by the district.  Enables the students to reach their fullest physical, emotional, psychological, and behavioral potential.

 

Essential Functions:

  1. Maintain weekly anecdotal records of ED student behavioral and academic activities as required by district policy; maintains professional ethics.
  2. Provide a basic core program for ED students utilizing appropriate behavior modification strategies to alter the child’s current behavior patterns and encourage development of appropriate behaviors consistent with code requirements of Ohio Department of Education, Division of Special Education.
  3. Develop teaching materials, instructional methods and lesson plans contained within the child’s Individualized Education Plan that are commensurate with the student’s learning abilities.
  4. Provide evidence to the staffing committee regarding ED student readiness for any participation in general education programs including assisting school psychologists with placement recommendations and testing procedures.
  5. Fulfill the school calendar and daily time schedule provided and is responsible for three additional days as designated by the Wood County Educational Service Center.
  6. Requisition materials and supplies from the Wood County Educational Service Center for distribution to students.
  7. Make special efforts, which may include home-visits, parent conferences, phone calls, observations, and written reports, to keep parents and home school informed.
  8. Implement behavior modification techniques as needed in a fair and consistent manner in order to promote positive behavior patterns. 
  1. Provide career information and job training habits throughout all grade levels.
  2. Cooperate and collaborate with other classroom teachers in the sharing of students.
  3. Perform all duties as required of general staff in building (i.e., playground, recess, lunch duty).
  4. Participate in planned placements, parent, and annual review conferences when scheduled.
  5. Assess students’ academic and social/behavior needs continuously; develops goals and objectives based upon said needs and evaluates students’ attainment of said objectives.
  6. Cooperate with County Educational Service Center staff and Penta staff in work experience and job training programs involving the ED student.
  7. Keep attendance records, class lists, and all other records pertinent to the ED program.
  8. Provide in-service to school personnel for purposes of explaining programs, services, and/or student needs.
  9. Attend county, district, and faculty meetings (seminars, conferences, workshops, and so forth) as adopted in the district’s and the Wood County Educational Service Center’s calendars.
